Commercial Business Alarms
On September 18, 2006, the City of Stow passed Codified Ordinance 701 entitled “Alarm Systems” this law requires that every non-residential alarm owner and/or user apply for and obtains a license to operate that alarm.

Community Policing
Community Policing is not a program, but a different way of doing business. The City of Stow Police Department joined a nationwide shift from a law enforcement/criminal justice focus to one of networking between citizens and government to answer the question of how to do more with less to solve crime.

Department History
Housed in a one-room office in the basement of the old Town Hall, the Stow Police Department was first established in April 1957 and consisted of Police Chief Robert Avery (a patrolman from the Akron Police Department) and Police Officers Robert Woodard and Ronald Harper who were former Summit County Sheriffs Deputies.

Emergency Notification Systems
Receive alerts about emergencies by signing up for Summit County Reverse Alert. This reverse alert system enables the County to provide you with critical information quickly in a variety of situations, such as unexpected road closures, missing persons, and evacuation of buildings or neighborhoods.

Neighborhood Watch
A Neighborhood Watch program is a group of people living in the same area who want to make their neighborhood safer by working together and in conjunction with local law enforcement to reduce crime and improve their quality of life.

Parking Violations
On November 20, 2006, the City of Stow opened its’ first Parking Violations Bureau (PVB). The mission of the PVB is to effectively administer the State of Ohio and City of Stow parking laws in a fair and equitable manner to all.

Records Division
The Records Division is staffed with four full-time employees and one part-time employee. This division, under the supervision of Cheryl Black, is primarily responsible for all police department record keeping and associated procedures in the maintenance of criminal, confidential, and other files.

Stow Safe Exchange Zone
Stow Police Department has joined other communities across the nation in designating a “Safe Zone” where members of the public are free to meet face-to-face to buy and sell items traded on online marketplaces, such as Craigslist.

Youth Services
The Stow Youth Services provides alternative rehabilitation for juveniles who have been arrested by local police. This program diverts teens from the Juvenile Court System and provides accountability and assistance to the teens and their parents.
