Life Safety Programs
The City of Stow Fire Department (SFD) is responsible for a wide range of activities that make our community a safer place to work, shop and live. The most effective way to prevent the tragedy of fire and other injuries is through education on their causes and to introduce of strategies for dealing with these emergencies. The SFD strives to provide the safety tools needed to prevent tragedies through the following Fire Prevention Awareness, and Fire and Life Safety programs.
If you have any questions, please use the contact listed under each program.
Providing a child restraint that is properly selected, installed, and used is the best way to ensure that your child is at their safest in the event of an auto collision.
The SFD has Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians who educate caregivers on the correct selection, installation, and use of car seats. To schedule, an appointment contacts our Fire and Life Safety Educator at 330-689-3292 or by email.
The SFD works with the American Red Cross to offer free smoke alarms to homeowners who live in the limits of the City of Stow. To request a smoke alarm, contact our Fire & Life Safety Educator at 330-689-3292 or by email.
The Stow Fire Department offers hands-on fire extinguisher training for businesses and organizations interested in learning the benefits of fire extinguishers and their use. Different types of fire are discussed, as well as how to choose the correct fire extinguisher. Using the P.A.S.S. technique (pull, aim, squeeze, sweep), individuals are instructed on the proper and safe use of extinguishers. The Stow Fire Department has a Fire Extinguisher simulator that provides individuals with hands-on training indoors.
To schedule a training, please contact our Fire and Life Safety Educator at 330-689-3292 or by email.
The Stow Fire Department offers a Youth Firesetter Intervention Program.
Children can be curious about fire, it is an essential part of our daily lives. Unfortunately, there are many reasons why children and adolescents misuse fire. This program is designed to evaluate your child's behavior to determine if their level of risk is within the scope of our program. Then together, we can decide what the most appropriate level of intervention should be. The program is designed for children ages 3 to 17.
For more information or to schedule an intake interview, contact Mel Gammell at 330-689-3292 or by email.
This program assists first responders in gathering information in the event that a person is unable to communicate during a medical emergency in their home.
The File of Life card enables Fire/Police/EMS personnel to obtain a quick and accurate medical history when a patient is unable to offer one. The card also eliminates the risk of a patient forgetting to mention something important.
The card, which is kept in a red plastic pocket labeled File of Life, lists the patient's name, emergency medical contact, insurance policy, social security number, health problems, medications, dosages, allergies, recent surgery, religion, and health care proxy. The entire pocket is held with a magnet to the outside of the refrigerator.
You can obtain a free File of Life card for you and each of your family members at Station 1 or contact our Fire and Life Safety Educator, Mel Gammell at 330-689-3292 or by email.
We offer Fire Station tours to individuals, civic groups, Girl Scout troops, Boy Scout troops, and school classes. Attendees will explore fire equipment, apparatus, and areas of the fire station that are open to the public.
To schedule a Station tour contact Mel Gammell at 330-689-3292 or email.
The aluminum can collection site is available at Fire Station 2, located at 4199 Hudson Drive. Money collected from recycled cans goes to Akron Children's Hospital Burn Unit to assist in non-medical essentials such as protective clothing, rehabilitative equipment, camouflage cosmetics, toys, and other items not covered by the patient's insurance.
